His message 'don't lose hope'.
Dawson has been navigating the asylum system for over a decade since arriving in Northern Ireland as a teenager. His story offers an authentic perspective on the injustices within our society and expresses frustration with how the asylum-seeking process has impacted him and his family. His narrative fosters empathy and understanding, providing a realistic view of the day-to-day barriers asylum-seekers face when integrating into a new culture and society.
"In Our Shoes" was developed by Voicing the Void in collaboration with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the South Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership, and with support from the Community Fund and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between diverse communities and the PSNI, cultivating understanding, empathy, and cohesion within South Belfast's communities. Central to our initiative is the transformative power of restorative storytelling. This project aims to demonstrate its potential to inspire significant change, and our hope is to see this initiative extend into communities across all of Northern Ireland.
